Chocolate Berry Protein Smoothie

SMOOTHIES. OH, HOW I ADORE THEM.

As someone who lives, breathes, and works WELLNESS, it goes without saying that I am an active person all around. Whether I am lifting at the gym, taking interval-style classes in-studio, practicing yoga in my zen den, or teaching any of the previously mentioned…my body does a lot of moving on any given day.

Over the years I have learned a ton about the importance of nutrition in order to optimize personal performance to reach my own goals, and also just to have the energy to sustain the amount of activity I take on in my life and work.

As much as I love eating full-blown meals and snacks, there are some days when:

  1. nothing in my pantry/fridge sounds good

  2. I don’t have time to sit down and prepare something

  3. a smoothie just sounds better

The thing I love about making smoothies is not only are they delicious, but they are a nutrient-dense, quick/simple meal or snack that you can’t really get sick of (there are SO many flavor options). I have been broadening my horizons in the smoothie world, playing around with flavor and texture combinations and I am pretty sure you are going to like this Chocolate Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie!

Check out the recipe below:

CHOCO-BERRY PROTEIN SMOOTHIE

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 c frozen mixed berries (or fresh berries and add ice)

  • 1 cup dairy free milk of choice (varies depending on how you like the consistency of your smoothies!)

  • 2 scoops chocolate protein powder (save 30% on my favorite brand, Orgain when you use code MELISSAFAB30 at checkout)

  • 1 Scoop Orgain Superfood Powder

  • Dash of cinnamon

HOW TO MAKE IT

  • Place all ingredients in high-speed blender, I recommend the Ninja System

  • Drink and Enjoy!

NOTE: Add more/less milk for different consistencies (probably obvious, but I wanted to say it anyway). I genuinely like my smoothies more like a fro-yo consistency…yes, I eat them with a spoon. If you want to thicken up your smoothie, add less milk and more frozen fruit.

TIP: Using frozen fruit in place of ice is a great way to keep the flavor strong without diluting it! If you notice you have some fruit that is on its way out, don’t throw it away! Peel and slice the fruit and put it in the freezer in single serving bags! Use that next time you make a smoothie! You’re welcome ;)
